Background
In 1996, Steve DeDoes put together the CD “Projections” – a collection that consisted of some of his successful commercial compositions to date.
A number of the soundtracks (the popular “Computer Literate,” “Friend For Life,” others) heard in this volume had been previously released as a part of a internationally-distributed music library; some of these themes found their way into broadcast – such as “Fanfare For A Common Destiny,” used as the introductory theme for the “Decision: ’96” political program that aired on NPR. These tracks all utilize an orchestral sound, combined with pop and jazz influences, in compositions that each present the listener with dramatic journeys that evoke their emotional intent.
Other musical selections were culled from additional film scoring projects. Steve developed the haunting and evasive “Variations On Brahms’ Lullabye” as a thematic basis for underscoring the film “Growing Apart.” Another film theme is the driving “Nowhere To Hide,” which provided the musical punch for the U.S. Air Force film “Project: GoldPan.” “Nowhere To Hide” is one of two numbers from “Projections” that contains a vocal; the other, “For A While,” is a poignant ballad featuring the alto voice of soloist Trisa Klipp. Another twist from the orchestral-based soundtracks that comprise most of this album is the introspective song “The Way It’s Supposed To Be,” played here as a piano solo that Steve recorded on a 9-foot Steinway grand.
“Projections” is a unique album that is not easily categorized. However, these tracks represent an important part of Steve’s musical legacy. We are excited to release this collection of memorable music into the online universe, and we are certain that you’ll find something that you’ll enjoy.
