Thanks to Gabriel Richard High School for hosting a special "Announcement Day" for Mattie's official status as a baseball recruit of Oberlin College, and of his being awarded the John F. Oberlin Scholarship.
Many friends and supporters from the FGR community were in attendance as coaches Greg Lenhoff (baseball) and Pete Schoch (basketball), in addition to athletic director Hally Yonko and principal Brian Wolcott, spoke about their pride in Mattie's achievements at Gabriel Richard and their hopes for his future success at Oberlin.
Mattie, in turn, spoke to everyone as well - thanking teammates, coaches, teachers, and administrators for their important contributions to his success.
In addition, Mattie was formally named team captain for 2010, along with fellow senior Tom White (see below).

Coaches Tom Dishman, Ryan Dishman, and Greg Lenhoff congratulate Mattie--along with admiring those district and regional trophies from 2009, they reminded Mattie that there is "unfinished business" for 2010... |
