After four consecutive championships in the Detroit Catholic League's C-D Division, FGR was elevated to the top division for the 2010 League Playoffs. We finished as runners-up, making it to Callihan Hall (the great basketball venue at the University of Detroit), where we lost in the finals to DeLaSalle High School.
I was named to the All-Catholic All-Academic Team; a few of my other teammates received recognition as well. Josh Herbeck and Keith Mackie were named All-Catholic, and Matt Jenkins and Donnie Eaton received all-Division honors.
We had a short run in the state playoffs, a rarity in recent years for FGR basketball. At our concluding banquet, I was named the "Coaches Award" winner for team play.
A few of my senior teammates will go on to play college basketball. Josh Herbeck is headed to West Point; Matt Jenkins to Madonna (MI) College; Brendan Cooper to Davenport (MI) College; and Keith Mackie to Cleveland State.
While a disappointing season for us in some respects, I was able to express my feelings when I spoke at the banquet -- my relationship with all my teammates, and how we worked together each and every day, will be something I will always remember fondly. Go Irish, 2010-11 !!
