Small Band.  BIG SOUND.

The “North Coast Horns” are a key professional identity for the stylings of composer/arranger/artist Steve DeDoes. The NCH moniker gets employed when Steve brings a horn section into his recorded work; when backing up other performers and groups with a distinctive horn sound; or as a standalone ensemble playing everything from classic jazz to horn-fired funk.

As an ensemble, Steve DeDoes & the North Coast Horns present a swinging, dynamic horn band – often customized to bring event-based originality.  NCH has a notable history for delivering its big-band sound, horn-fired pop classics, vocal punch, and great jazz – all with a presentation that brings class and style to any occasion, venue, concert series, or event.

Included in the NCH repertoire are distinctive arrangements of modern pop tunes. Hear some examples, in the following clips:

Based in southeastern Michigan, the North Coast Horns first premiered as a group in presenting a night of their big-band and horn-based repertoire at a black-tie benefit event in Chicago in the fall of 2015.  From there, they have been in-demand for happenings in Cleveland, Toledo, and of course, closer to home in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area.

NCH has, on many occasions, adapted its lineup to incorporate diverse elements and repertoire. For special events, we have merged NCH with our “Motor City Beat (click here)“. This was the case at at a recent gala event hosted by Detroit’s renowned Roostertail Entertainment Complex (summer, 2019). NCH not only presented an incredible range of musical styles throughout an unforgettable evening, but also featured customized arrangements created specifically for the occasion. Most notable was our unique and memorable arrangement of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” part of a customized set that payed an important tribute to the musical history of this landmark venue.
