TALKIN’ RHYTHM – WITH DANNY SERAPHINE. “CHICAGO” DRUMMER STILL POUNDING OUT GROOVES
This past summer, Steve and Mattie DeDoes met and spent some time with Danny Seraphine – the original drummer from the legendary rock group “Chicago“. Seraphine, in Fort Wayne to present a clinic, got into some complex discussions about jazz-rock drumming with the duo.
“These guys are DEEP,” said the legendary rhythm master, diving enthusiastically into discussion about developing rhythmic counterpoint from melodic and harmonic motifs. ”It was such a pleasure to hang with them and talk music.”
Seraphine listened to Mattie’s “Outside The Lines” CD, and took a copy back with him to California – where he now drives his horn band, “California Transit Authority,” from the drum chair. With a name derived from his roots with “Chicago,” the group not only does new takes on old “Chicago” tunes, but also produces new material in the jazz-funk genre.
