Musical Credits
As a music director, composer, arranger, and performer,
Steve DeDoes has credentials in stage, screen, broadcast, and
Internet. Just a few of his accomplishments in these areas:
- Stage & Live Performance.
Steve has written and produced entire stage musicals (1999's "www.HolidaySpirit.com"
for Oakland University, 1998's "Arm In Arm" for
Eastern Michigan University, and his own "You're Nothing
Without Me," in 1997); served as music director/pianist
for Second City, Meadowbrook Theatre, Purple Rose Theatre
Company, the national tour of "Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolor Dreamcoat" (with the Osmonds & Jodi
Benson), the Chenille Sisters, and countless other acts, shows,
and comedians; and appeared as a featured guest artist at many
venues and with performing groups throughout the Midwest.
- Broadcast. Steve has
produced complete radio and television advertisements (the
"Vast Difference at the GEM Theatre," "Little
Professor Book Company," "Lodi Farms") in
addition to composing and producing numerous musical themes that
have been used for broadcast programs (NPR's "Decision
'96," WJR's "Internet Advisor"). He has
appeared on television as a performer (most recently "Backstage
Pass"), going back many years. His CD
"Steve DeDoes' Corporate Projections," is published by
music library GMP and has been used in countless commercial
presentations by industry producers.
- Soundtracks, Scores, and
Highlights. One of Steve's favorite projects was
composing the musical score and producing the complex sound
effects of Jeff Daniels' smash 1994 play, "The Vast
Difference." Some other notable musical highlights
include the complete musical score for Brian Adler's (Turner
Entertainment Group) 1995 film "Growing Apart;"
concert premieres of Steve's serious compositions
"Christmas Gloria" (1998) and "Fanfare for the
Common Market (1997); the songs and complete score for Flint
Youth Theatre's original production "Growing Up
Female" (believe it or not !); Billboard Magazine recognition of
"Magic In The Night," a theme song for the Doug
Henning Magic Show; and collaboration with harpist Kerstin
Allvin on "Origins," where Steve's contributions as
producer/composer/keyboardist helped that CD reach Top Ten
Airplay in 1988.

Academic Positions
Steve has served on more than one occasion in academia:
- Artist In Residence, Oakland
University, fall 1999. Produced an original stage show
("www.holidayspirit.com"), developed a new theatrical
orientation for one of the performing ensembles of the
Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance, and concurrently served
OU's professional Meadowbrook Theatre as music director/pianist.
- Artist in Residence, Eastern
Michigan University, winter 1998. Developed the complete
musical score and co-produced the show "Arm In Arm,"
based on a book by R.Charlip. Provided musical direction,
keyboard and recorded accompaniment, and sound design.
- Invited Lecturer: Wayne
State University Music Department, fall 1998. Presented to
WSU students the lecture "Creative Horizons: Artists
and Interconnections," consisting of formal perspectives on
being an artist and tackling the modern challenges of reaching
audiences.
Once Upon a Time
Steve was
a trombonist of "minor note" - serving as principal trombonist
of the Pontiac-Oakland Symphony (1978-84), winner of the Concerto
Contest at Oakland University (1980), and working with name
performers, shows, and events.
| Steve also enjoyed some success in
athletics, going back to when he was an all-conference
quarterback in high school (1970's). Since appearing in a
charity basketball game with former NBA stars (like George
"IceMan" Gervin, right) in 1992, his competitive fires
have to be stoked in "old man" games.
He hasn't picked up
that horn in years...but he still can put the rock in the rim
(when left unguarded).
|

"Ice" sez:
"Steve can still play...
piano, that is !" |
And these days,
Steve devotes a lot of his time to helping youth achieve the
highest level of their performances in sports and in
music. He commits countless hours to youth sports,
including the baseball organization he founded (the Huron
Heat); and through his musical endeavors, has a legacy in stage and
studio productions that involve young performers.
